Mother’s Milk Bank of New England Depot
Healthy Babies, Happy Moms Inc. is proud to announce that effective January of 2013, HBHM Inc. will be the Rhode Island Depot for the Mothers' Milk Bank of New England. (MMBNE) HBHM Inc. celebrated the opening of our depot with an open house on January 9th. Close to 50 people attended and a great time was had by all!
Mother's with extra breast milk are now able to drop it off at our office. We will ship it to Boston where is will be processed and distributed to babies that need it. The MMBNE is a non-profit community milk bank operating under the guidelines of the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA). Their goal is to provide donated, pasteurized human milk to babies in fragile health throughout the New England area. Women and Infants Hospital has recently started using their milk in a study.
Many mothers of ill and premature infants are unable to provide enough milk for their babies. The gift of human milk can mean the difference between life and death for these infants. MMBNE and HBHM Inc. are proud to be part of this tradition. If you are interested in dropping milk off at our facility, please contact the MMBNE directly to be screened. Once you have been cleared to donate, MMBNE will let us know and you can start dropping off milk. You may visit the Milk Bank website’s donation page or call them at 617-527-6263 to get the process started.
